The Kirkwood Historical Society (KHS) is constantly striving to improve the condition of our 162-year-old Greek Revival home, Mudd’s Grove. As part of that effort, we routinely seek historic preservation grants to help with upkeep and repairs to the home.
On June 1, 2021, Roy Brown and Holly Washek hosted officers of the Webster Groves Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) at Mudd’s Grove. NSDAR provides support for local projects exemplifying the organization’s mission areas of historic preservation, patriotism and education. Ms. Anita Motz, Webster Groves Chapter Regent, and Ms. Anne Blackburn, Chapter Chair of the Historic Preservation Grants, met with Roy to discuss historic grant possibilities for Mudd’s Grove.
Holly provided a tour of Mudd’s Grove with an extended visit to KHS’s Harold Gould Library where we archive documents, books and artifacts of the history Kirkwood. KHS plans to submit a grant request through DAR’s Special Projects Grants program later this summer to help fund repairs and repainting of Mudd’s Grove. We are in the process of raising matching funds for the repainting of Mudd’s Grove. Contributions can be made to the Mudd’s Grove Repair and Maintenance Go Fund Me page at https://gofund.me/25c9cf9a
