Join the Friends of the Kirkwood Historical Society November 5 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Mudd’s Grove for The Power of Place: The Forgotten, Nearly Forgotten, and Rescued Landscape of St. Louis presented by Andrew Wanko, Public Historian, Missouri History Museum. Without a doubt, St. Louis is home to architectural gems, fascinating historic sites, and lively neighborhoods. Yet it’s easy to forget that so many of these places have long since disappeared—or come dangerously close to doing so. See significant landscapes, buildings, neighborhoods, and even an entire island that have disappeared from St. Louis, and examine the factors that led to their demise. Then discover iconic St. Louis places that were nearly destroyed at one point in their lives as well as some that have made successful returns.
It’s times like these when I’m sad to be an hour and a half away from Kirkwood! This lecture sounds fascinating.
